Wes Moore, who is backing policies to support new technologies touted as safer, more efficient, and more versatile than traditional reactors.
While some share concerns about nuclear power, with a history of accidents like the partial meltdown at Three Mile Island in 1979, advocates say the technology is much safer now.

Here’s what some fans told us about Elias and the current standing of the Orioles (answers have been edited for clarity and grammar):
Although injuries played a huge part in the Orioles’ downfall, player regression is the main reason why this team is in the shape it’s in now. With that said, Elias put way to much stock into these prospects, thinking that they would all progress. He dreadfully gambled in the offseason that the offense would carry any pitching woes. He gambled big time and lost, thus setting the ballclub back. Now he has no choice but to trade a lot of this team and hope he can get prospects back to salvage his huge mistake. — Bob lancione
He did not replenish Orioles’ major league roster. And what is the training staff doing with all the injuries? Three hitting coaches and the O’s can’t hit? Two or three pitching coaches and they can’t pitch!? Elias failed on all fronts! Plus Hyde’s departure was another error by the GM! — Charles Ignatavicius
I voted yes but understand concerns. I was glad to see former manager Brandon Hyde sent packing and think the team is playing better under interim manager Tony Mansolino. Losing right-hander Grayson Rodriguez seemingly for the season was a blow nobody anticipated along with the catching carousel. I wish someone could tell me what the heck happened to Adley Rutschman since 2024. — Mike R
All of a sudden everybody thinks they know how to be an MLB GM?! The majority of friends and fans that I know have jumped on the “Dump Elias” bandwagon; a function of herd mentality and an ever more impatient society. Give it another 2-4 years and we’ll have a better take on the success of this front office. Until then, in Elias (and his crew) I trust! And don’t be surprised if the O’s work their way to the top of the AL East standings next year. — Laurence Berbert
I think it’s time for the new owners to bring in their own general manager. Ellis did a good job early on but fails to realize you need to sign some of your own players. The move of trading Bryan Baker with 3-4 years of team control for a draft pick makes no sense to me. I know I’m not an expert, but come on. Firing Hyde made little sense, since all of the injuries were out of his control. I hope David Rubenstein brings in new blood. — James Goodman
I voted no but having only yes and no as options is a bit unfair. The O’s play this season has caught everyone by surprise, although there were signs heading into it that we were woefully short on quality starting pitching and the offensive funk of last year’s second half. I’m not giving up on Elias yet but he’ll need a good offseason to get this team back on track. — Mike Kucharski
Elias did a terrible job with the pitching staff! He traded Kyle Stowers and Connor Norby for Trevor Rogers. Those two never got a chance, just like Coby Mayo now. How does anyone know if he can play? The team should cut Tyler O’Neill loose and play the young guys. Elias has not developed minor league pitchers, and now they are in trouble. They are sad to watch. — Wayne Littleton
Elias doesn’t have any control over injuries, but talent evaluation is job No. 1. Stowers is going to be a perennial All-Star. It’s 50-50 whether Gunnar Henderson and Rutschman have already made their only appearances. — Mark

Just look at his drafting. He passed on Bobby Witt Jr. to take Rutschman. Bad decision. He rarely takes high school players despite the fact that their best talent has come from high school (Henderson, Rodriguez). He never takes risks and has refused to take pitchers. He always thought you could trade position players for pitchers and it just doesn’t happen. Elias continues to fill the pitching ranks with players with one or two years of control (Corbin Burnes, Zach Eflin) while not developing pitching in their own ranks. We have ZERO pitchers in the top 100 MLB prospects. No guts, no glory. — David
Overall, I think Elias has done a good job. His biggest swing-and-miss was not getting a top-line starting pitcher this past offseason. If he couldn’t convince Burnes to re-sign, then he (and Rubenstein) should have signed (whatever it took) the next best — Max Fried. The big question is will any of the young stars decide to extend and stay with the O’s. My feeling is they won’t. So maybe Elias needs to look at getting a haul for Henderson, Rutschman, and any others that are Boras clients that will test free agency rather than extend. We become Tampa Bay of the Mid-Atlantic. — Dale Summers
I don’t want his job. We all know pitching gets you to the World Series. Too many injuries to the pitching staff have hurt us this year, but we have a lot of young talent in the pipeline. They have plenty of bats, so hopefully some of the pitchers Elias drafted will develop into something for the future. — Greg Campbell
I don’t know that anyone could have anticipated the extent of injuries the Orioles have experienced. People would have been thrilled with Elias if we had re-signed Burnes and Anthony Santander but would we be any better off? I think getting Rodriguez, Kyle Bradish, Tyler Wells and Albert Suarez back will be much more beneficial than trading for more pitching. My biggest problem with Elias was signing Tyler O’Neill. — Ron Wilson
Elias does a good job working on minor league growth but seems to lack any knowledge how to make a major league team a World Series competitor. — Tony
I chose yes, but his performance is really somewhere in the middle. Elias has demonstrated that he has a keen eye for talent in the draft and his trades have been both successful (Burnes, Eflin, and now Rogers) and not so successful (most of his trade acquisitions). This has resulted in the winning seasons the past few years. The area he really falls down in though is free agent acquisition — what in the world possessed him to sign O’Neill and Gary Sánchez this past offseason? Or Craig Kimbrel last year? This team needs a veteran bat (a true professional hitter) and top of the rotation pitcher (re-signing Eflin would help). The team should bring back Buck Showalter to develop the players or at least consult in developing the players and look to add some former front office executives with good track records to consult on trades and free agent acquisitions such as Pat Gillick or Sandy Alderson. This season and the way the last two ended show that Elias and his front office could use some extra help. — Bruce Voelker
He drafts well, but is absolutely atrocious at the trade deadline and during free agency. I have to give him credit for building the team up to being competitive, but he has no clue how to get over the final hurdle. — Shawn Kane
It’s all about pitching. The Oriole way used to be about pitching and defense. The way a team wins pennants is to have a stable starting rotation and solid defense. I’ll give Elias a C- on his inability to bolster a starting rotation. — Mark Miller
He’s been great at drafting and creating a stacked farm system. But he has dropped the ball a little in the offseason. I think this year is a big one for his plans for this team. He’s got important decisions to make before the deadline and important contracts to extend. He’s done a better job than those before him, and I bet he’ll make a big splash this coming offseason. — Richard Marrs
Sure, he drafts well enough, but that’s not going to win a World Series unless we are savvy in free agency and a bit more aggressive. He’s earned a C, maybe a C-. — Sean Quinn
Having known/grown up with Lee MacPhail, Ralph Houk, Hank Peters and Andy MacPhail — the one category in which Mike Elias exceeds them is his total lack of humility. — Geordie French
