Mildred Kelly made history at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Now a new Edgewood park carries her name.

Mildred C. Kelly, the first African-American woman to hold the rank of sergeant major in the Army during 1972, had a community park in Edgewood named after her. The 5.5 acre park houses military-themed equipment, a large gazebo and a walking trail.
