So Rep. Steny Hoyer appears to want to run again (“Rep. Steny Hoyer raises $232,000 as he mulls reelection bid,” July 15).

Politicians like him, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, et al., are the poster children for term limits. They generally get re-elected, not because of their stellar performances, but because the average voter is lazy and will push the button for the familiar name. Do we need another Dianne Feinstein situation where these aged legislators literally need to be propped up by their aides?

I think it’s great that, at their ages, they’re coherent and cognizant, more or less, and in reasonably good health. But we need new blood on Capitol Hill, on both sides of the aisle. These folks need to retire and go spend what time they have left with their families. Sadly, we’ll never see term limits because they’re the ones who have to vote on it and they want to keep their jobs.
