UPDATED:

The perennial Oriole rebuild is in full swing. Were looking at next year now. Does this mean we should stop going to the games until then? Perhaps the Bowie-based Chesapeake Baysox are an option (“Orioles’ trade chips stumbling with deadline approaching,” July 23).

Several things need to change for this next rebuild to be successful. First, a good baseball team needs decent pitching. The team needs to stop signing over-the-hill pitchers who can’t last a full season. They may be cheaper but look at the results.

Second, the young talent the team drafted from the last rebuild needs to be signed to multi-year contracts. Otherwise, they will walk after their control years are up.

Perhaps this approach might prove a better business model for the team.
